Summer is here with a bang. With the rising heat wave, every part of India is withering under the hot sun. One of the ways you can bring your body back to equilibrium is by including a few simple practices in your life. These easy steps will go a long way in keeping your body cool and protected. There are several ways in which you can detox your body. These include pranayama (breathing exercises), foods that you consumer, stuff that you put on your skin and liquids that go in your system. Here are my top tips to keep it cool
Shitali Pranayama: It’s a great pranayama to begin your day with, especially in the summer months. Sit in any posture that you are comfortable in (vajra asana or sukh asana). Keep your phone is on silent and ensure that you are free of all distractions. Make sure that your waist and spine are in the same line and your posture is erect, hands resting on your knees. Now stick your tongue out of your mouth and roll it like a tube or a tunnel. Suck the air through your tongue all the way in, as much as you can, making a hissing sound. Bring the tongue back into your mouth, shut your mouth and hold your breathe for as long as you can. Exhale from both nostrils. Repeat this entire motion 5 – 6 times.
This pranayama will help you detoxify your body by cooling it down from the inside. You will feel the effect of it almost immediately. It helps purify the blood, helps with quenching thirst, it’s helpful for people suffering from high blood pressure, indigestion as well as acidity and it brings an unbelievable glow to your skin!
Rose water: Known for its therapeutic properties, Rose water is a great friend to have this summer. Keep it in your bag at all times and spritz it on the face whenever you can. It will not only cool your skin down but also tone it, naturally. Very soothing it will reduce redness, itchiness and general grim that result from the being outdoors in summer months! You can mix it in your body scrubs and face packs to heal blemishes and bring that glow back on your face. This one’s a keeper, ladies!
Green juices: What better way to keep your body hydrated and detoxified at the same time, than by consuming a glass of green juice everyday. It cleanses and detoxifies you body inside out. Given the heat generated in your body in summers, one glass a day of your favorite greens is the best way to keep your system clean, energised and balanced. Thrown in whatever greens you see in your fridge in a blender, mix it all up and drink it. Add lemon for flavour.
My favourite go-to juice is: Kale, parsley or coriander, cucumber, celery and ginger. You will start noticing the results within 15 days of starting this practice. Your digestion will improve, skin will glow and your energy levels will be at an all time high! What are you waiting for?
Dark Chocolate: Known for it’s Anti oxidant properties, Dark chocolate is a surprisingly good choice to opt for when the sweet tooth beckons. It is a great addition to make to your everyday food choices as it improves overall health and even reduces the risk of heart ailments. A good quality dark chocolate is rich in Fiber, Iron, Magnesium, Copper, Manganese and other minerals. Besides these amazing benefits, dark chocolate works wonders for your skin as well. It is known to increase the blood flow to your face and reduce the damage done, due to being out in the sun for long periods of time. A chocolate face mask is the perfect anti-tan solution for you this summer.
Green Tea: Loaded with anti oxidants and nutrients, Green tea is a great addition to your summer must-haves. Put a few leaves in a cup and let it brew for 3-4 mins. You can have it warm or keep it in the fridge to chill it; either ways it’s an amazing addition to make into your daily life this summer. Have about 2-3 cups a day. Green tea is also great when used on the skin. Ideal for sensitive skin, it’s wonderful properties work very well to keep your facial skin clean, detoxified and glowy.
